Family Games Night

Family Games Nights are a great opportunity to unplug from digital devices and connect together minus a screen. So, toss your gadgets aside, indulge in some board games and spend some quality time as a family.

We’ve put together some of our favourite game night ideas that will make the night memorable for all of you. These classic games are timeless and have been entertaining young and old for generations.

The ultimate game of wheeling and dealing. Monopoly will teach your kids maths skills without them even realising as the game encompasses property management, budgeting, rent and taxes.
Tip: Make sure you’ve allocated plenty of time as a game of Monopoly can go on for hours on end!

A longtime family favourite that always brings a lot of laughs. Kids will have the chance to practice skills in construction, cause and effect, and decision making. Scurry around the board collecting cheese and stealing cheese from other players, but watch out for the trap!

An ideal activity for expanding kids’ vocabulary and having fun with words. Build the crossword puzzle board-wide with the help of each letter tile and gain points. Just remember to have a dictionary handy to verify words!

Was it Colonel Mustard with the candlestick in the study or was it Professor Plum with the dagger in the billiard room? Cluedo is the all-time favourite murder mystery game. The goal of Cluedo is to figure out who the murderer is, what weapon was used and where they committed the crime. Each player takes a turn on the board and ends up in one of the nine rooms of the Tudor mansion represented. Playing detective and taking notes is the key to solving the mystery!

Celebrity Heads

This simple but highly entertaining game is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. The best part about it is you can play the game anywhere as the only materials needed are some sticky notes and a pen.

To get started, ask all players to write the name of a celebrity on a sticky note and place it into a hat.

Each player then pulls a note from the hat and without looking at the name sticks it onto their forehead. Now everyone in the group knows the identity of the player’s celebrity – except the player!

To identify the celebrity, each player takes turns asking questions about e.g. “Am I female?” or “Am I a singer?”. The winner is the player who is first to guess the identity of their celebrity.

Top 3 tips for running a successful family games night:

  • Put it on the calendar. Pre-plan and commit to the time.
  • Choose games and activities together so everybody is happy to get involved.
  • Have everyone hand in their phones at the beginning of the night and turn off the TV.
