We may be staying at home and homeschooling but with AR technology, we can let the kids go wild and create a wildlife park or jungle with just the tap of a button. It’s an exciting new way for kids to interact with their favourite animals.
So how can you conjure up a tiger in your backyard?
Firstly, make sure you have an AR-ready phone or tablet.
Launch www.google.com on your Google Chrome or Safari browser.
Search for your animal by typing in the name eg. “Tiger” — and below the description on the search result will be a Google information box that also has a “View in 3D” button.
Click on the View in 3D” button to launch your larger than life AR experience – a viewer will appear showing where you can place your virtual animal.
Move your phone around as it instructs, so it can scan your floor and voila, you have an AR animal!
Need some inspiration of what animals to add to your kids’ very own zoo?
Google is constantly adding new 3D objects and animals to choose from. So far you can select the following:
- Angler fish
- Ball python
- Brown bear
- Labrador Retriever
- Emperor penguin
- Giant panda
- Shetland pony
Your little one will be utterly amazed at the realism of the life-sized virtual animals and it’s a fantastic opportunity for them to learn all about the different kinds of animals found all over the world while staying safe indoors.
With technology always evolving, the way we learn is changing too – make lesson time fun, interactive and totally immersive with this new way to learn.
